We talk to Merlin about his busy but bright day!
Merlin Halliday has certainly served his time in the security industry, having worked as an officer for over 20 years. But, when we spoke to Merlin to find out why he enjoys working for 4 Site Security and how his experience helps to support our company and benefit our clients, he answered a busily ringing telephone with “Hello gateway management, how can I help you?” with as much warmth and enthusiasm as if he was on day one of the job!
Having worked for one client for eight years and with almost the same number of private contracted security companies on this site, Merlin was cautious when he was TUPE’d over to 4 Site Security nearly three years ago. When he joined us, he says he was asked what he would like from us, and Merlin was clear in his answer – consistency and stability.
We immediately recognised Merlin’s skills and experience and passion for his job, and he has been delighted to be given security over the last few years. Merlin now delivers concierge services in a large, 450-apartment, city centre accommodation block. This is a busy hub where he receives and gives out the mail to residents, greets all contractors and ensures they are correctly parked, takes utility meter readings, deals with phone enquiries, gives directions and answers queries, and juggles a multitude of varied tasks on a daily basis. But no matter how busy the day, Merlin always has time for people and has a smile on his face.
He explains that he gets great job satisfaction from helping people and enjoys being able to communicate with people on many different levels: “If I’ve had a really good day, I go home feeling better, and I like to help other people feel that way too.”
Outside of his security work, Merlin likes to support and help to better his community. He has worked with homeless people and now, with two children of his own and having been a boxer, gives his time to help friends run boxing clubs for young people. “I like to give people all the support I can to achieve their goals,” he concludes.
Strong values are clearly important to Merlin. He explains: “When 4 Site Security launched the company’s Vision and Values at the start of the year, I was really interested at the roadshow. I thought it was brilliant and it hadn’t happened with any of the other companies I’d worked for. I care about what I’m doing and it showed they cared too – especially about the people who work for them. They show interest in me and visit me regularly to find out how things are going.”
For Merlin, this environment of Support, Integrity, Trust and Excellence enable him to be the best he can be, secure in the knowledge that he is valued, and to deliver a top notch service to our clients.
